Compete Against The Country's Best

Qualification Process

  • Teams must participate in a Provincial Trail: Each province has its own trail (e.g., Gauteng TT, Anglers 4 Anglers in Mpumalanga, etc.).
  • Points-Based Ranking: Teams earn points across the season from these local events, usually about 8 tournaments per year per trail.
  • Top Teams Qualify: At the end of the season, the top-ranking teams from each provincial trail qualify for Nationals. The number of teams sent is proportionate to the size of the trail.

Nationals (Team Super Final)

  • The championship spans multiple days (usually 3).
  • Hosted by a different province each year at top venues like Albert Falls, Injaka, or De Hoop Dam.
  • It determines:
    • National Champions: Best overall team in SA
    • Top Provincial Trail: Based on collective team performance
    • International Qualifiers: Top performers may get invites to the Bassmaster Team Championship (USA) and Protea or President’s Team nominations.

So to qualify, a team must:

  1. Be part of an affiliated provincial SABAA Team Tournament Trail.
  2. Be a member in good standing with SABAA.
  3. Be a member in good standing with Bassmaster USA.
  4. Compete consistently and rank high over the season.
  5. Be selected based on their trail’s final standings for Nationals.
  6. Have fished at least 6 of 8 tournaments from their respective league.

The current National Team Championships (Super Final) result counting 60% of the final score.
The best of the previous two National Team Championships results counting 40% of the final score making up the total numerical contribution to the qualifying process.

Teams qualifying for Protea and President’s Colours are to compete in a International Team event (6 x Boats for Protea and 6 x Boats for Presidents), will qualify based on their national seeding order, after a National Team Championships has been completed.
Only teams that have previously attained President’s Colours prior to a National Team Championships, will qualify for Protea Colours on condition that the team is in good standing with both their Regional Trail and SABAA TT Associations.
